We’re excited to announce that The Eternal Collection—a series of 1000 NFTs inspired by Sir Anthony Hopkins’ decades-long acting career—has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Ethereum mainnet.
By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to help randomize the unique characteristics of the NFTs for the art reveal and to help randomize the distribution of rewards to NFT owners. Ultimately this creates a more exciting and transparent user experience, as users can have high confidence that the randomness used in the art reveal and winner selection process is provably fair.
Two-time Oscar winner, composer, and artist Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined forces with the Web3 entertainment company Orange Comet to create The Eternal NFT Collection. Through this collaboration, Sir Anthony will expand his artistic expression into the Metaverse in a way that is entirely his own. Featuring a handcrafted collection of 10 archetypes, each with its own unique identity deeply connected to the mind of Anthony Hopkins, The Eternal Collection is a celebration of life and beauty in chaos.
The 1000-piece collection includes 10 Unique and Random Signature Animation NFTs and 990 Unique 1-of-1 images based on the 10 different archetypes (99 variants for each archetype).
The 10 Unique Signature Animation NFTs include the following utility:
- Discussion with Sir Anthony Hopkins (via Zoom).
- An autographed Dreamscapes Art Book, featuring hundreds of full-color images of paintings and drawings by Sir Anthony Hopkins, offering an intimate glimpse into his artwork, poetry, and music.
The 990 Unique 1-of-1 images include the following utility:
- 39 Random buyers receive an autographed Dreamscapes Art Book, featuring hundreds of full-color images of paintings and drawings by Sir Anthony Hopkins, offering an intimate glimpse into his artwork, poetry, and music.
- 5 Buyers will be randomly selected to join the 10 signature animation holders in the intimate discussion with Sir Anthony Hopkins (via Zoom).
- 1 Buyer will be selected to have a once-in-a-lifetime one-on-one zoom with Sir Anthony Hopkins with the conversation recorded and posted on Sir Anthony Hopkins’ social media.
- 100 buyers will be randomly selected to get a personalized NFT with a message from Sir Anthony Hopkins airdropped to their wallet.
In order to help randomize the NFT reveal and the winner selection process, we needed access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity. For instance, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data like block hashes can be exploited by miners/validators, while off-chain RNG solutions derived from off-chain APIs are opaque and don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process.
After reviewing various solutions, we selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by a time-tested oracle network, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Eternal Collection smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the NFT reveal and the winner selection process is provably fair and was not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the Orange Comet team.
Orange Comet is also exploring integrating Chainlink Automation in the future to automatically trigger smart contract functions.
