Want to know more about Chakra The Invincible and Stan Lee’s process behind creating the superhero?

The Chakra Powers

Chakra The Invincible’s powers are based on Indian wisdom and traditions of how the energy centers of the body are aligned with the energy of the universe. Through disciplined mental and physical techniques, the chakras are said to align an individual with the powers of the universe and unlock both internal harmony and external abilities.

Past interview with Stan Lee

(Selected Q&A’s with Stan about Chakra taken from various 2013 press interviews)

What made you look east and create an Indian superhero? How did it all materialize?

STAN LEE: This all happened because my good friend Sharad Devarajan told me he was launching Graphic India to create new Indian superheroes and asked if I would be interested in creating one. I thought it would be exciting to bring my own style of superhero storytelling to India and collaborate with the amazing artists there. I have always been fascinated by Indian culture. It’s so philosophical and rich in tradition and morality. I’ve written countless superheroes of every nationality and every part of the world before, I’ve even created many heroes from other planets and galaxies, but Chakra The Invincible is the first superhero I am creating specifically for the Indian market.

What defines a superhero?

STAN LEE: I think people are always looking for something that represents the ideal person, or the ideal situation. You know, there’s another reason. I feel that almost everybody has loved fairy tales when they were young. I don’t know anybody who didn’t read fairy tales as a young child. You’re reading stories of witches, ogres, giants, monsters and so forth — kids love that sort of thing. But, after a while, you become too old to read fairy tales; you outgrow them. But I don’t think you ever outgrow your love for those types of stories. And if you think about it, superhero stories today are like fairy tales for older people. It’s people with powers and abilities that no human beings have. The villains are always bigger than life or the menace is bigger than life and it’s like the giants and the dragons in the old fairy tales. So, it’s a chance for older people to have that same fun and excitement that they had when they were young reading fairy tales — at least that’s my theory.

Tell us about Chakra.

STAN LEE: My goal with Chakra The Invincible is simple — I want to bring an Eastern concept like the Chakras to the world via the Western genre of superheroes. And I think people around the world will be excited by Chakra’s tales and will accept him as a hero for themselves. I’ve always tried to give my heroes and my villains a lot of personal problems so that they seemed like real people. That’s what makes Chakra such a compelling story, it’s because we care about Raju Rai and the personal challenges and struggles he goes through. Problems such as having trouble paying the bills, bullies at school, a crush on a girl. It’s these basic human challenges that make heroes such as Chakra relatable to us.

While I want Chakra to have all the elements that have made my other superhero characters popular, I still want him to be totally unique— as each of them are. I’m hoping that Chakra will be one of the first of many superhero characters from India that will be popular world-wide. You see, I expect Chakra to appeal to readers around the world — not just India. I try to create characters that connect with the basic human struggles and challenges which are relatable to people Mumbai to Manhattan.

Did you face any kind of challenge or writer's block when you were creating Chakra?

STAN LEE: Dreaming up the stories isn’t that hard, but coming up with a good title is the toughest part. It’s a tremendous challenge, because there have been so many characters created over the years. Every time you think you come up with a great name, you find out somebody has already done it. When you can sit down with a plain sheet of paper in front of you and make some notes, and, little by little, you see it take shape and become a concept for a comic book, a movie or a TV show. That’s a real thrill. You watch it go from notes on a paper to a meeting with writers and directors and actors. I can’t think of anything that’s more exciting.

Every superhero has an alter ego. How important is it to the character? What do you keep in mind while creating it?

STAN LEE: Their alter ego helps make these heroes more relatable and shows the flaws they have just like the rest of us. I think if they’re not flawed, they become incredibly uninteresting, because they become one dimensional. If the character can do no wrong and is perfect in every way, he is not a terribly interesting character. Achilles, without his heel, you wouldn’t even know his name today. So, I’ve always tried to make the characters I’ve written as realistic as possible and then just give them one attribute that makes them incredibly colorful so you want to read about them. But beyond that attribute, they should be as realistic and empathetic as possible.

What are the things that you think about while creating a new character considering the changing times?

STAN LEE: I hate to sound immodest, but I think my characters have withstood the changing times probably because we concentrated just as much on the characters’ private lives as we did on them fighting the bad guys. And I think it’s important, whether it’s a superhero story or any story, you have to feel that the characters themselves are interesting and you want to know more about them. And you care about what they do and how they feel and what their personal problems are, and how they’re going to solve them. And we always tried to give our heroes and our villains a lot of personal problems so that they seemed like real people.

Who are your inspirations?

STAN LEE: Oh, I guess like everybody else, my influences were the things I read and the movies I saw growing up. But the biggest influences were the movies and the books. I could only go to about one movie a month, just because of the price. Luckily, I could read a book at any time, so I did a lot of that. I read legends, Robin Hood, The Odyssey, Sherlock Holmes. My favorite movie star, far and away, was Errol Flynn. I thought that this guy was the greatest because he always played such heroic roles. He was either the sheriff of Dodge City, or he was Robin Hood, or he was Captain Blood. When I would leave the theater, I’d be about 10 years old I guess, I would imagine I had a little crooked smile on my face the way Errol Flynn did, and an imaginary sword at my side while I swashbuckled down the street. All of these people were my heroes. I assume everybody is like that. We all have people we admire, actors we admire, fictional characters we admire, and if we didn’t, what would we ever have to aim for? What goals would we have?

You have been making comics for so many years. What drives you even now?

STAN LEE: I think if you enjoy what you do it’s like playing and you can’t stop. Most men want to retire at a certain age. They say ‘I can’t wait to retire so I can play golf or travel,’ or whatever it is. But I’m already doing what I want to do. It’s so much fun. Think about what we are doing now with Chakra. What a great new challenge to create this superhero with Graphic India. That’s the kind of fun that I love. Seeing a character jump from my imagination and out into the world.

Your message to upcoming creators.

STAN LEE: Always try to write stories that you yourself would like to read. If your story interests and excites you, the chances are it will do the same for your readers.

About NFTs

WHAT’S AN NFT?

NFTs (or “non-fungible tokens”) are special types of digital collectibles that can be purchased, collected, and traded through an online NFT marketplace. Types of NFTs are digital images, collectibles (such as trading cards, autographs, dolls, etc.), sound and video clips, 3D art or other digital files that represent special properties. By minting (aka creating) these digital NFTs on the Orange Comet blockchain (See ABOUT OUR BLOCKCHAIN below), it guarantees that the NFT or digital collectible that you are purchasing, whether directly from us or in the exchange marketplace, is a genuine and official licensed NFT and not a “fan made” piece that you may see on other sites.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY NFT ONCE I RECEIVE IT?

Once an NFT is created, it starts its life on the blockchain, where a fan or collector can purchase it and where it can be subsequently exchanged, traded or held by collectors like any other rare artifact. Your NFT will be placed into your Orange Comet Marketplace account and you now have recorded ownership of that NFT. You’ll also be able to display your NFT to your friends and link it to your favorite social media network for bragging rights on your collection of cool NFTs. You can also list your NFT for sale on our exchange.

WHERE WILL MY NFT BE STORED?

When you create an ORANGE COMET’S STAN LEE’S CHAKRA THE INVINCIBLE NFT account we set up an account for you known as a “custodial wallet.” This is the most common type of wallet offered by many different companies producing NFTs for blockchains. Think of the wallet as a digital account used to store your ORANGE COMET’S STAN LEE’S CHAKRA THE INVINCIBLE NFTs. You have a digital wallet on your smartphone that holds pieces of electronic digital information; an NFT digital wallet holds NFTs which are digital collectibles. Since it’s a custodial wallet, we create and manage it for you but you always have final say on what you want to do with your NFTs (buy, sell or trade them on the Orange Comet platform.)

About Our Blockchain

WHAT IS A BLOCKCHAIN?

Blockchain is a system of recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system. A blockchain is essentially a digital ledger of transactions that is duplicated and distributed across the entire network of computer systems on the blockchain. Your ORANGE COMET’S STAN LEE’S CHAKRA THE INVINCIBLE NFT ownership is recorded on the Polygon Blockchain as an ERC-721 or ERC-1155 NFT.

WHAT IS ERC-721/1155?

ERC stands for Ethereum Request for Comment. It means that the NFT is coded for the Ethereum Blockchain and the number beside it refers to the specific way the token is encoded. The most common tokens on the Ethereum Blockchain are ERC-721 or ERC-1155 and each version of the code that creates them allows the NFT to do certain things.

WHAT IS POLYGON?

The Polygon Blockchain is an Ethereum based Proof of Stake Layer one blockchain. The Stan Lee NFT drop will be launched on the eco-conscious Polygon blockchain. Polygon is a climate sustainable blockchain that is over 99.99% more carbon efficient than Ethereum.

I’VE HEARD RUMORS THAT NFT’S USE UP TOO MUCH ELECTRICITY AND EMIT A LOT OF CARBON INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THE ORANGE COMET NFT COLLECTION?

Orange Comet feels that it is essential that all blockchain transactions become NET-ZERO and the easiest way of doing this is platform by platform rather than individual offsetting. All Orange Comet front end servers are renewable energy powered by wind farms. Partnering with the eco-conscious Polygon blockchain allows Orange Comet to fulfill its commitment to running on green servers and building a carbon-negative solution for NFT collecting. 🌿
